Trust & fairness

Provably fair openings, built in

Every mystery box, pack and prize opening on PackOS is provably fair. Customers can independently verify that the outcome was determined in advance and never manipulated — the trust layer that separates a credible engagement platform from an opaque one.

How it works

The commit-reveal model

A four-step cryptographic process that any customer can verify.

1. Server seed is committed

Before any opening, the platform generates a secret server seed and publishes a SHA-256 hash of it. The hash proves the seed exists and cannot be changed later, without revealing the seed itself.

2. Client seed is added

The customer supplies (or is assigned) a client seed. Combined with the server seed and an incrementing nonce, it means the outcome depends on input the operator cannot solely control.

3. Outcome is computed

The result is derived deterministically from the server seed, client seed and nonce. The same inputs always produce the same outcome — no hidden randomness.

4. Server seed is revealed

After the opening, the original server seed is revealed. The customer hashes it and checks it matches the hash committed in step one, then recomputes the result themselves.

The verification, in short

hash(server_seed) is published first. The outcome is derived from server_seed + client_seed + nonce. Afterwards the server seed is revealed, the customer confirms it hashes to the original commitment, and recomputes the exact result. If both match, the opening was provably fair.

FAQ

Common questions

What does provably fair actually mean?
Provably fair means a customer can mathematically verify that the outcome of an opening was fixed in advance and not manipulated by the operator. It uses cryptographic hashing so the result can be checked independently, without trusting the platform's word.
Why does provably fair matter for operators?
Fairness is a trust and compliance requirement. Payment providers, regulators and customers increasingly expect verifiable outcomes for pack and box products. A provably fair system reduces disputes, supports responsible framing and differentiates you from opaque competitors.
Can customers really verify results themselves?
Yes. Because the server seed hash is published before the opening and the seed is revealed afterwards, any customer can recompute the outcome from the seeds and nonce and confirm it matches. PackOS exposes the data needed to do this.
Does provably fair make a product legal?
No. Fairness verification is separate from gambling regulation. Provably fair proves outcomes are not manipulated, but whether a product is compliant depends on its structure and jurisdiction. Always take local legal advice.
